During a recent visit to UW-Parkside, we filmed Dr. John Skalbeck explaining key facts regarding the Great Water Alliance (GWA) program. Dr. Skalbeck is a Professor of Geosciences and the Academic Director for the Master of Science in Sustainable Management program at the university.

One topic Dr. Skalbeck explores is how the GWA water supply program will improve the quality of the Root River. The water that the City of Waukesha uses will be returned to Lake Michigan via the Root River after being treated at Waukesha’s Clean Water plant, recognized as one of the best in our state. The clean water returned will meet stricter permit limits than wastewater currently being discharged into the river. In addition, the program will improve fish passage and aid the Root River Steelhead egg collection facility, improving overall fishing and recreation opportunities on this important Lake Michigan tributary.
